The Benefits Of Dermaplaning

The Benefits Of Dermaplaning

Over the last decade, dermaplaning as a facial aesthetic treatment has seen an exponential rise in popularity.

In short, dermaplaning is a gentle exfoliation treatment where hair and dead skin are skimmed from the face with a fine blade, providing the skin with a smoother appearance.

That said, whilst the process might sound similar to shaving your face, dermaplaning is different in that it uses a small blade ‘to slough off dead skin cells in addition to removing wispy facial hair, so skin is more even in tone and texture’. This leaves you with a more radiant and youthful complexion.

If you’ve never had dermaplaning before, you might not be aware of the many benefits associated with this treatment.

The benefits of dermaplaning include, but are not limited to:

  1. Rejuvenated and glowy skin
  2. It allows makeup to be applied more smoothly
  3. It’s a cost-effective treatment
  4. It minimises the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

1. Rejuvenated & Glowy Skin

Arguably the largest benefit of dermaplaning is the rejuvenated and glowy skin it provides, helping you to achieve the aesthetic trend known as ‘glass skin’.

The process of dermaplaning works to remove fine hairs and dead skin cells from the skin’s surface, leaving you with rejuvenated skin without you needing a more invasive procedure.

As such, dermaplaning is the perfect treatment for beginners or those who prefer manual exfoliation as opposed to chemical exfoliation which is achieved through chemical peels.

Whilst the process might sound similar to shaving your face, dermaplaning is different in that it uses a small blade ‘to slough off dead skin cells in addition to removing wispy facial hair, so skin is more even in tone and texture’.

2. It Allows Makeup To Be Applied More Smoothly

Another significant benefit of dermaplaning is that it allows makeup to be applied more smoothly.

With the rise of the ‘clean girl aesthetic’ that focuses on natural makeup, dermaplaning goes hand in hand with achieving dewy, glowing skin.

This largely comes down to the fact that the aesthetic treatment of dermaplaning removes dead skin as well as peach fuzz, meaning you can apply your makeup with ease.

Instead of liquid products such as foundation and concealer sticking to the hairs on your face, resulting in your makeup looking cakey, dermaplaning allows you to apply makeup effortlessly for a flawless finish every time.

3. It’s A Cost-Effective Treatment

Another benefit of dermaplaning is the fact it’s a highly cost-effective treatment.

Depending on the clinic that you go to, ‘dermaplaning treatments can cost upwards of £40 for a session, with repeat appointments recommended every four-to-six weeks’.

However, when you consider that a round of chemical peels can cost £500 for medium depth peels, and as much as ‘£2000 for the most expensive and advanced deep peels’, dermaplaning is a relatively cheaper manual exfoliation alternative.

As such, if you’re looking for a minimally invasive, more affordable option to keep your skin radiant, dermaplaning might be the answer for you.

4. It Minimises The Appearance Of Fine Lines & Wrinkles

Last, but not least, a large benefit of dermaplaning is that it can minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, making it a great preventative aesthetic treatment.

As we age, it’s normal for our skin to look a bit dull and lifeless. Dermaplaning removes dead skin, revealing new skin cells, therefore leaving you with a more youthful complexion that makes it appear as if you’re glowing from within.

Additionally, it can also reduce the appearance of ‘acne scars or pitted skin’, so if you’ve struggled with scarring in the past, dermaplaning can be a great way to achieve healthy-looking skin.

What Is An Eyebrow And Eyelash Training Course?

What Is An Eyebrow And Eyelash Training Course?

Eyebrow and eyelash treatments have grown exponentially in popularity, with the number of treatments that clinics offer seeing a significant increase over the last decade.

From eyebrow threading to laminating, to lash extensions, lifts, and tints, the ever-evolving range of treatments and techniques demand that aesthetic practitioners and nurses are required to move with the trends in order to compete.

In short, an eyebrow and eyelash training course is a qualification for providing various eyelash and eyebrow treatments.

A good training course will cover how to improve the cosmetic appearance of eyelashes and eyebrows, providing you with more information on factors such as how to improve lash and eyebrow thickness as well as potential adverse effects.

If you’re an aesthetic practitioner looking to diversify your skills within the industry, an eyebrow and eyelash training course is the perfect opportunity to do so.

  2. Allows you to cater for more clients
  3. Allows you to keep up with the latest techniques

1. The Demand Is Higher Than Ever

One of the main benefits associated with taking an eyebrow and eyelash training course is that as we’ve already mentioned, the demand for eyelash and eyebrow treatments is incredibly high.

In fact, the eyebrow industry was worth £20m in the UK in 2016, and it’s been reported that ‘lash treatments are now the second most popular service in salons after nails’, emphasising how many people are seeking these types of treatments.

As people lean more towards treatments that promote low-maintenance lifestyles, such as lash lifts and brow lamination, taking an eyebrow and eyelash course is a great way to meet the increasing demand.

When you consider that the eyebrow industry was worth £20m in the UK in 2016, and it’s been reported that ‘lash treatments are now the second most popular service in salons after nails’, it's evident how many people are seeking these types of treatments.

2. Allows You To Cater For More Clients

A huge benefit associated with taking an eyebrow and eyelash training course is that it allows you to cater for more clients.

Whilst beauty trends, such as ‘contemporary eyebrow treatments’, can spread like wildfire thanks to apps such as TikTok and Instagram, there are many eyebrow and eyelash treatments that have been around for years and aren't going anywhere.

Diversifying your skills as an aesthetic practitioner, however, is essential to ensure you’re not isolating any potential clients.

By achieving more qualifications within the aesthetics industry and offering more eyebrow and eyelash treatments, your clients won’t ever need to go anywhere else.

3. Allows You To Keep Up With The Latest Techniques

Whilst training to become an aesthetic practitioner is a great career path, it’s essential to keep educating yourself.

Considering that 60% of practitioners noted increased competition as their biggest concern, it’s important to keep up with developments and the latest techniques within the industry.

The best aesthetic practitioners never stop seeking out education opportunities or striving to be better, and taking an eyebrow and eyelash course is a great way to keep up with the latest techniques and treatments for your expanding clientele.

Not only will this help you to provide your clients with the best possible service, but it will also allow you to compete and remain ahead of the competition.

Reasons You Should Consider A Weight Management Course

Reasons You Should Consider A Weight Management Course

It’s no secret that weight management plays a fundamental role in healthcare.

When pursuing a career in aesthetics, there are many reasons why you should consider a weight management course aside from the fact that it broadens your skills as an aesthetic practitioner.

At You Can Clinic, we offer a Weight Management Course that is delivered by one of our experienced doctors. The course places an emphasis on the latest pathophysiological mechanisms involved in obesity, whilst discussing the principles of weight management.

In addition to this, the course focuses on newer therapies for treating obese and overweight patients, particularly the GLP-1 analogues, such as Liraglutide (Saxenda) and Semaglutide.

Our course costs £300 in total, with a deposit of £300 to secure your place. To book a place on one of our weight management courses, simply visit our website.

At You Can Clinic, our Weight Management course places an emphasis on the latest pathophysiological mechanisms involved in obesity, whilst discussing the principles of weight management.

Reasons you should consider a weight management course include, but are not limited to:

  1. Career development
  2. Flexibility
  3. Improve people’s lives

1. Career Development

A big reason to do a weight management course is for career development, as the demand for trained clinicians is showing no sign of slowing down.

Considering that ‘adults in the most deprived regions have almost double the prevalence of obesity compared with the least deprived (36% compared with 20%)’, it's evident that obesity will likely worsen in the UK during times of economic downturn as inflation increases the price of everyday goods.

This price increase has a knock-on effect on the types of food that people consume, as fresh foods are often more expensive. So, whilst people purchase highly processed foods out of necessity, these foods are inevitably more unhealthy and thus ‘increase the risk of being overweight and obese’. When you look at the ever-pressing issue of obesity through this lens, the correlation between diet and obesity is apparent.

That said, the importance of gaining knowledge about weight management and developing your career in aesthetics has never been more important. It goes beyond what people look like on the outside, helping them to better understand how their health is faring on the inside.

Taking a weight management course, then, not only enables you to develop your skills for a long-lasting career but also means that you’ll be able to help meet the demand of the increasing number of people requiring help and advice to manage their weight.

2. Flexibility

Another reason to do a weight management course is the flexibility that it provides.

A weight management course can be taken alongside your current job, ensuring that you’re not missing out on income whilst you develop your skills and further your career as an aesthetic practitioner.

At You Can Clinic, our Weight Management Training Course is highly relevant to all aesthetic practitioners trying to expand on their knowledge and develop services in weight management. The training course also allows you to monitor and provide support to your clients through treatment.

If you’re interested in a weight management course and learning how to better support your clients' health, then be sure to contact us today.

3. Improve People’s Lives

Another reason why you should consider taking a weight management course is to improve people’s lives.

As we’ve already mentioned, obesity is increasing in the UK. In fact, when you consider that adult obesity in England rose from 15% in 1993 to 28% in 2019, and 1 in ten children is obese by age 5, rising to 23% by age 11, the importance of weight management is emphasised.

With weight management being increasingly devolved to the private sector, the best quality weight management courses are designed to support the clinician in delivering an evidence-based approach as a component of their clinical service. This, in turn, makes weight management more accessible to a wider group of people.

Taking a weight management course can not only further your career in aesthetics, then, but also arm you with the information to positively impact and improve people’s lives.

how much is a botox course?

How Much Is A Botox Course?

When aspiring to become an aesthetic practitioner, taking a botox course is a natural step to further your progression and expand your knowledge and skillset in aesthetics.

In short, a botox course can cost anywhere between the range of £500 to £1000+ including VAT, though this can differ depending on the training provider in question and whether it’s a beginner or advanced level course.

That said, you will need to find an accredited training provider to get a better feel for how much a specific botox course is.

When doing your research to find a course within your budget, be sure to check out reviews. This is important, as the cheapest course you can find doesn’t immediately mean that you’re getting a better deal as it might not cover what you need it to, which is why reading the course content is also essential.

botox course can cost anywhere between the range of £500 to £1000+ including VAT, though this can differ depending on the training provider in question and whether it’s a beginner or advanced level course.

At You Can Clinic, we offer a range of training courses to suit the individual from beginner to advanced practitioner. These courses include two Botulinum Toxin training courses, Introduction to Botulinum Toxin and Advanced Botulinum Toxin.

  • Introduction to Botulinum Toxin - This course costs £550.00 in total, and requires a £300.00 deposit to secure your place on the course.
  • Advanced Botulinum Toxin - This course costs a total of £750.00, with a deposit of £300.00 to secure your place.

Our Introduction to Botulinum Toxin course involves close supervision and introduces you to glabellar, forehead and crow’s feet. This course is ideal for healthcare professionals, such as nurses, doctors, dentists, and pharmacists.

During our Advanced Botulinum Toxin, you will gain a deeper understanding of the use of Botulinum Toxin. Additionally, you will learn how to administer botox under expert guidance for a number of conditions, including migraines, bunny lines, and hyperhidrosis to name a few. That said, you will need to have completed a beginner botox course to do this course.

Now you have a better understanding of how much a botox course itself costs, you might be wondering what costs are associated with taking a botox course.

Costs Associated With A Botox Course

There are various costs of taking a botox course that you should be aware of, so that you can adequately budget before signing up for a course.

These costs include but are not limited to:

  1. Upfront costs
  2. Travel costs
  3. Time taken out of work

1. Upfront Costs

If you're interested in taking a botox course, you’ll first need to consider is the upfront costs.

These include the cost of the botox course itself, as well as the deposit that you will be required to pay to secure your place on the course.

Keep in mind when researching relevant courses that the upfront costs shouldn’t take up your entire budget, as you will need to consider the cost for everything else that follows.

At You Can Clinic, we offer two Botulinum Toxin training courses, Introduction to Botulinum Toxin and Advanced Botulinum Toxin.

2. Travel Costs

Another important cost to consider when signing up for a botox training course is travel costs.

Considering that ‘some train season tickets cost more than £5,000’ in places such as London, the additional cost of getting to and from your training course is important to consider.

Decide whether you intend to drive or get public transport. Is the training provider located somewhere that has good transport links? If you're driving, how much fuel will you need to get there?

Finding a training provider that is not only convenient for you to get to but is also within your budget in terms of travel costs is essential.

3. Time Taken Out Of Work

If you’re taking time out of work in order to expand your knowledge and skill set, then this can have financial implications if you’ve got no other money coming in.

Additionally, if you’ve quit your job to retrain and focus on your career in aesthetics, you will need to budget for this. Generally speaking, it’s recommended that you ‘save three to six months’ worth of your fixed living expenses before leaving’ your job, and more money on top of that to cover the other costs associated with a botox course.

Many accredited trainers carry out botox courses on weekends in order to accommodate for this cost, so if you can’t afford to take time off work, then this might be a better option to prioritise.

If not, you will need to budget for the time that you’re not working in order to complete your course.

Aftercare Advice For Lip Filler

Aftercare Advice For Lip Filler

Lip fillers are one of the most popular aesthetic treatments in the aesthetic industry.

In fact, in 2021, lip filler procedures ‘were the most popular cosmetic procedure searched online with [a] monthly search volume of 40.5 thousand’.

That said, it can be difficult to know what to expect after receiving lip filler if you’ve never had it before. If this is your first time getting filler, you’re likely wondering what the aftercare advice for lip filler is.

It's important to note that you should always be sure to follow the advice of your aesthetic practitioner when receiving lip filler.

Lip filler aftercare

Aftercare advice for lip filler includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Booking your appointment ahead of big events
  2. Avoiding flying for two weeks following treatment
  3. Ensuring you stay hydrated
  4. Following the advice of your aesthetic practitioner
  5. Applying ice packs

1. Booking Your Appointment Ahead Of Big Events

The first tip to bear in mind begins before you even have your aesthetic treatment, as it is to book your appointment ahead of big events.

It’s normal for symptoms such as bruising and swelling to occur near the injection site for fillers.

Booking your appointment ahead of big events relates to aftercare in that if you fail to do this, the risk is that you could still be swollen considering that it can take ‘7 to 14 days’ for any swelling and redness to go down.

Bearing this in mind, if you’re getting your fillers for a specific event, such as a wedding, then it’s essential to book ahead by a few weeks to ensure that you have plenty of time to recover before the big day.

Lip filler aftercare tips
It can take ‘7 to 14 days’ for any swelling and redness to go down following lip filler, so it's best to book your appointment ahead of time before events.

2. Avoiding Flying For Two Weeks Following Treatment

The next piece of aftercare advice for lip filler is to avoid flying for two weeks following treatment.

This comes down to the fact that your fillers need time to settle. The cabin pressure on a flight can leave you feeling and looking swollen regardless of any treatments that you’ve had done, but this risk of swelling can increase when you have recently received lip filler.

In addition to this, should any complications with your fillers arise, you don’t want to be far away from your aesthetic practitioner as you’ll want to seek their professional advice on the next steps.

lip filler aftercare advice
It’s best to plan way in advance to ensure that your fillers have been allowed to settle before you travel on any planes.

3. Ensuring You Stay Hydrated

Following this, you should ensure that you stay hydrated after your treatment.

Making sure that you’re staying on top of your water intake is essential following your lip filler treatment.

This is especially true for hyaluronic acid-based fillers, as they bind with water, in turn increasing the volumising effect to make your lips look nice and plump.

Be sure to keep a note of how much water you’re drinking, and try to drink a minimum of two litres of water a day to remain hydrated.

It’s also important to note that staying hydrated includes avoiding eating any overly salty foods, as food high in sodium can dehydrate you without you even realising it.

To avoid this, be sure to check the nutritional value of foods, as foods such as ‘soups, pasta sauce and frozen pizza’ can contain a lot of hidden salt.

Lip filler aftercare advice
Making sure that you’re staying on top of your water intake is essential following your lip filler treatment.

4. Following The Advice Of Your Aesthetic Practitioner

It goes without saying that you should always follow the advice of your aesthetic practitioner following lip filler.

You will have already done your research on which aesthetic practitioner is the best in your area.

As your aesthetic practitioner is a trusted professional, they should know your treatment inside out, and will therefore have the best advice regarding aftercare.

That said, you should follow their instructions to ensure you’re carefully taking care of yourself following your lip filler appointment.

In addition to this, you should also keep in touch with them should you have any questions or concerns following your treatment.

5. Applying Ice Packs

Lastly, it's a good idea to apply ice packs or cold compresses to the treated area following your lip filler appointment as this can help reduce swelling and discomfort.

We recommend wrapping the ice pack in a clean cloth and applying it to the lips for short intervals (about 10-15 minutes at a time) several times a day during the first 24-48 hours after treatment.

Woman receiving botox

Can Anyone Train To Do Botox?

The answer to this question is yes, anyone can train to do botox should they wish to pursue it as a full or part-time career.

In the UK, there is currently no legislation that stops individuals with non-medical backgrounds from carrying out cosmetic procedures provided that they receive the relevant training and qualifications to do so.

This makes aesthetics a potential career choice for many people. If you’re interested in training to do botox, the qualifications you will need are:

  1. Level 6 qualification
  2. Level 7 qualification

1. Level 6 Qualification

If you want to train to do botox, a Level 6 qualification is required as the minimum in order to perform basic upper face botox procedures.

In short, then, the Level 6 qualification will allow you to perform botox procedures, but will not allow you to prescribe botox. As a result, you’ll need a practitioner with prescribing power present in order to prescribe Botulinum Toxin for you.

There is a minimum requirement of how many times a skill will need to be observed and practised by the individual being trained.

For your Level 6 qualification:

  • You will need to observe 10 treatments to the upper face, for 10 different clients.
  • Under supervision, you will need to practise 10 treatments to the upper face, for 10 different clients.
Training to do botox

The Level 6 qualification is the minimum qualification required to administer botox.

2. Level 7 Qualification

Once you have your Level 6, you can consider a Level 7 qualification, which is required for comprehensive use of botox.

As a result of this qualification, practitioners should be able to make sound judgements, deal with various issues of varying complexity, and be able to act autonomously with regard to administering Botulinum Toxin.

For your Level 7 qualification:

  • You will need to observe 10 treatments for 10 different clients.
  • Under supervision, you will need to practise 10 treatments for 10 different clients, for each type of treatment.
  • A prescribing licence (This is an additional qualification that is required in order for you to achieve the Level 7 qualification).

This is a qualification that allows the aesthetic practitioner to perform botox without being supervised.

Botox

To achieve a Level 7 qualification, a prescribing licence is required.

This comes down to the fact that Botulinum Toxin is prescription only. As a result, the qualified prescriber must undertake a client consultation prior to the treatment, and issue a prescription for botox following this.

In addition to this, it is the practitioner’s responsibility to ensure that any other practitioner to whom they delegate administering procedures has the necessary qualifications to do so.

There are a number of training courses available. In order to achieve this qualification, you will need to take an aesthetics training course or alternatively complete a ‘V300 Advanced Certificate in Independent Prescribing’.

It’s worth noting the value of this qualification, as you stand to make more money and have more career opportunities in aesthetics if you have the ability to prescribe.

At YouCan Clinic, there are specific Botulinum Toxin training courses to suit the individual’s experience, from beginner to advanced practitioner.

For more information on the qualifications required to practise Botulinum Toxin, be sure to check out the ‘Qualification Requirements for Delivery of Cosmetic Procedures’ published by Health Education England.

Can anyone train to do botox?

To get your prescribing licence, you will need to take a training course or a  ‘V300 Advanced Certificate in Independent Prescribing’.

Can Beauty Therapists Do Botox & Filler Courses?

Yes, currently beauty therapists have the option to train to become aesthetic practitioners, and there are various training courses out there to help you achieve this.

It’s worth bearing in mind that the majority of established clinics which offer Botulinum Toxin as well as other fillers tend to employ individuals with a background in healthcare, such as doctors, dentists, pharmacists, and dental nurses.

Bearing this in mind, it might be a more realistic option to get your qualifications to become a self-employed aesthetic practitioner if you have a background in beauty therapy. This will allow you to make a decent salary whether you decide to set up your own aesthetics business or if you intend to become a mobile aesthetics practitioner.

That being said, as this article has demonstrated, it’s not impossible for you to make the switch if you’re already a beauty therapist and want a career change.

We hope that this article has shown you that anyone can train to do botox with the relevant training and qualifications.

What Is The Difference Between Botox And Baby Botox?

What Is The Difference Between Botox And Baby Botox?

Baby botox, also referred to as micro botox, is a relatively new trend that is designed to smooth out wrinkles whilst adding volume to the patient’s face.

If you’ve never heard of baby botox before or are interested in the procedure, you might be wondering what the difference between botox and baby botox actually is.

In short, while the procedure for botox and baby botox works in the same way and targets the same areas, the main difference between botox and baby botox is that baby botox involves using a smaller amount of Botulinum Toxin.

As such, the main objective of baby botox is to give the patient a more youthful look without the frozen or unnatural expression that can occasionally occur with traditional botox, producing a more natural look.

Baby botox v botox

The main difference between botox and baby botox is that baby botox involves using a smaller amount of Botulinum Toxin.

There are many benefits associated with baby botox. The benefits of baby botox include, but are not limited to:

  1. Baby botox provides more natural results
  2. It requires less maintenance
  3. The procedure is less expensive than traditional botox
  4. It allows you to retain more facial movement

1. Baby Botox Provides More Natural Results

With more and more people looking to celebrate their natural beauty, a huge benefit associated with baby botox is that it provides more natural results when compared to traditional botox.

Baby botox allows you to make small tweaks to give you a younger look and enhance your natural beauty.

That said, for people looking to reap the rewards of receiving an aesthetic treatment, but want something a little more natural, then baby botox is a great option.

The difference between botox and baby botox

The main objective of baby botox is to give the patient a more youthful look without the frozen or unnatural expression that can occasionally occur with traditional botox.

2. It Requires Less Maintenance

Another benefit of receiving baby botox is that because it uses less botox, it therefore requires less maintenance.

This largely comes down to the fact that you can leave it longer between follow-up appointments.

Generally speaking, for traditional botox, the upkeep requires follow-up treatments every 3 to 4 months in order to minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

In comparison, when it comes to receiving baby botox, you may be able to go as long as 4 to 5 months between follow-up appointments to keep the desired results.

That said, every case is unique, and you may find that you want a follow-up appointment sooner than this depending on the look you’re going for.

3. The Procedure Is Less Expensive Than Traditional Botox

The cost of baby botox varies depending on the clinic that you receive the treatment. That said, generally speaking, the procedure tends to be less expensive than traditional botox.

When it comes to receiving baby botox, fewer units of botox are used in comparison to a traditional dose, therefore making the facial aesthetic treatment slightly less expensive.

It is also less expensive in that you can space your baby botox appointments further apart when compared to traditional botox appointments.

As such, many might find receiving baby botox a sustainable option.

What is the difference between botox and baby botox

When it comes to receiving baby botox, you may be able to go as long as 4 to 5 months between follow-up appointments to keep the desired results.

4. It Allows You To Retain More Facial Movement

Another large benefit associated with baby botox is that it allows you to retain more facial movement.

In some cases, botox can ‘limit a person's ability to make full facial expressions’, which can sometimes contribute to people waiting until it’s too late to reap the full rewards of receiving botox.

While facial expressions, such as squinting, smiling, and frowning naturally contribute to making wrinkles more prominent over time as we age, facial movements are how we express ourselves.

As baby botox uses a lesser amount of botulinum toxin, it thus produces a more natural-looking result and allows the patient to retain more facial movement.

As such, baby botox is great for people that still want their face to move naturally and don’t want their facial expressions to be limited, whilst also reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Hopefully after reading this article you now know the difference between botox and baby botox.

Aesthetic Trends In 2023

Aesthetic Trends In 2023

With 2023 right around the corner, it’s natural to be looking toward the coming year and what it will hold in terms of aesthetic trends.

With the demand for aesthetic treatments only increasing, and more people looking for surgical and nonsurgical treatments across the UK, there are many aesthetic trends to look out for in 2023.

Aesthetic trends in 2023 include, but are not limited to:

  1. Prioritising facial assessments
  2. Natural, subtle treatments
  3. Focusing on the individual
  4. Consulting an accredited practitioner
Aesthetic trends 2023

Facial assessments involve your aesthetic practitioner assessing your facial symmetry, the proportions of your face, and your skin quality before the aesthetic treatment is carried out.

1. Prioritising Facial Assessments

An essential aspect of facial aesthetics treatments is facial assessments, and this will carry all throughout 2023.

Facial assessments involve your aesthetic practitioner assessing factors such as your facial symmetry and the proportions of your face, as well as your skin quality before the aesthetic treatment is carried out.

While many clients will have an idea of what they want their treatment to look like, and will often bring in reference photos of celebrities, facial assessments are essential to ensure everything is in proportion to your unique facial features.

Facial assessments are especially important when a client is looking for a natural look that enhances their natural beauty, but wants something other than the standardised look.

That said, prioritising facial assessments throughout 2023 will be highly important for established aesthetic clinics all over the UK.

2. Natural, Subtle Treatments

The next aesthetic trend for 2023 is subtle and natural treatments, from dermaplaning to eyelash and eyebrow treatments.

The last few years, and 2022 in particular, have seen a boom in clean beauty and natural beauty trends, from Hailey Bieber’s glazed skin to glossy lips.

Many influencers are opting for a more natural look as the ‘Instagram aesthetic’ shifts from heavily curated to more authentic content.

As such, subtle tweaks and natural aesthetic treatments are expected to be on the rise throughout 2023, with people seeking treatments that allow for low-maintenance beauty routines.

From botox to dermal fillers to dermaplaningYou Can Clinic offers a variety of training courses that allow patients to feel rejuvenated, whilst also enhancing their natural beauty.

If you’re interested in one of our training courses, be sure to get in touch with a friendly member of our team today at courses@youcanclinic.com.

3. Focusing On The Individual

In 2023, it’s likely that aesthetic practitioners will be taking a more individualised approach to aesthetic treatments.

An individualised approach places emphasis on the fact that no face is the same. Every patient is unique, highlighting how important it is for aesthetic treatments to be individualised to every patient.

Ensuring that an aesthetic practitioner takes an individualised approach for each treatment helps to highlight a patient’s unique features without compromising their natural beauty.

After all, your unique beauty should be celebrated, and the world would be a different place if we all looked the same.

4. Consulting An Accredited Practitioner

Last, but by no means least, consulting an accredited practitioner is important throughout 2023 and beyond.

As there has been a significant increase in the number of aesthetic clinics opening across the UK over the last few years, it’s never been more important to do your research for your own safety when looking for an aesthetic practitioner.

Be sure to check reviews to find out more information, carry out research on the aesthetic clinic itself, and ask around when you’re interested in finding an aesthetic practitioner

Lastly, you should always get a feel for the accredited practitioner themselves by looking for the practitioner’s qualifications and checking their website. You can also ask questions by booking a consultation, as this will give you a better idea of whether the practitioner is the right fit for you.

Your safety should always be the number one priority when you’re looking to make any surgical or non surgical changes.

6 Tips For Botox Aftercare

Receiving botox can feel like a daunting prospect, especially if you’ve never had any aesthetic treatments before.

If you’ve just received botox, you might be wondering what aftercare tips there are out there to ensure you’re taking care of yourself.

There are many tips on how to look after yourself following a facial aesthetic treatment. That said, it’s important to note that this general advice shouldn’t replace the specific advice from your aesthetic practitioner.

Tips for botox aftercare include, but are not limited to:

  1. Don't lie down for 4 hours following treatment
  2. Don’t sleep on your face for 24 hours
  3. Avoid any strenuous exercise for the first 12 hours
  4. Steer clear of facial treatments
  5. Keep out of strong sunlight
  6. Listen to your aesthetic practitioner

1. Don't Lie Down For 4 Hours Following Treatment

The first tip to consider after getting Botulinum toxin is to ensure you stay upright and don't lie down for a minimum of 4 hours following the treatment

The reason this is essential is to give the botox time to settle into your face nicely before you lie down or go to sleep at night.

While it’s safe to relax after your botox treatment, it’s best to book your appointment for a time when you know you’ll be able to stay upright for the next few hours so that you’re not tempted to take a nap before your botox has settled.

You need to remain upright for a minimum of 4 hours following botox.

2. Don’t Sleep On Your Face For 24 Hours

Another tip following botox is to avoid sleeping on your face for 24 hours.

This might sound like a simple one, but if you’re someone that’s used to sleeping in a particular position then you need to be aware of this.

If you sleep on your face after your botox treatment, you risk dislodging where the botox has been injected into your face, and it could travel to unwanted areas.

As such, it’s important to sleep in a position that doesn’t squish your face. So, if you’re used to sleeping on your front or your side, prop yourself up with pillows to encourage sleeping on your back after your aesthetic treatment.

3. Avoid Any Strenuous Exercise For The First 12 Hours

This comes down to the fact that strenuous exercise can cause the botox to spread to other parts of your face, thus reducing the benefits of your aesthetic treatment

As such, if you play any sports or are a regular gym-goer normally, be sure to avoid this for the first 12 hours following botox.

Additionally, you will want to wait a full 24 hours before returning to your normal exercise routine to be safe. From this point onwards, you’re fine to exercise as normal.

If you sleep on your face, you risk dislodging where the botox has been injected into your face.

4. Steer Clear Of Facial Treatments

The next tip to consider for the aftercare of a botox treatment is to steer clear of facial treatments for a few days.

This comes down to the fact that skin treatments, such as facials, can increase the risk of you accidentally dislodging the injections before they set into your face.

You should also keep touching your face to a minimum for the first couple of days for the same reason.

That said, once this time has passed, you’re safe to go back to receiving your facial treatments.

5. Keep Out Of Strong Sunlight

Something else that’s important for botox aftercare is to keep out of strong sunlight for the first two days.

Direct sunlight not only flushes your skin, but also raises your blood pressure, which has the potential to cause bruising where the botox has been injected.

As you already might be experiencing a little bruising from the injection site after your botox treatment, you don’t want to exacerbate this in the sun.

This is also true of other means of heat exposure, such as the sauna, sunbed, hot tub, or even a hot bath or shower. As such, you will want to take care when bathing.

6. Listen To Your Aesthetic Practitioner

Last, but not least, be sure to listen to the advice provided by your aesthetic practitioner.

Every established clinic will have its own advice on aftercare following treatments, and it’s the safest option to follow the advice that they provide you regarding your specific treatment.

Following their advice will ensure that you are taking care of yourself properly following your botox procedure.

When Should You Start Getting Preventative Botox?

Preventative botox is used to help younger patients from developing wrinkles, offering a more natural look to botox.

The difference between preventative botox and botox is that as the name suggests, preventative botox prevents the onset of wrinkles early on in life, whilst botox is used to correct wrinkles.

What age can someone start preventative botox?

The answer to this question is largely subjective, as the right age to receive preventative Botulinum Toxin (botox) is subjective to you and your skin.

Due to legislation in the UK, it is illegal for botox and dermal filler procedures to be administered for cosmetic reasons to people under 18.

As such, you’ll neither need nor want to start preventative botox before the age of 18. That said, many people opt to have preventative botox in their 20s and early 30s to prevent fine lines from turning into established wrinkles that become deep-set in your 40s.

Wrinkles are normal and natural

It’s natural for everyone to have some wrinkles when we move the muscles in our face, which are known as dynamic wrinkles. That said, preventive botox works at preventing deep wrinkles from developing on other areas on your face, such as at the corners of your eyes (crow’s feet).

Preventative botox

Many people opt to have preventative botox in their 20s and early 30s to prevent fine lines from turning into established wrinkles that become deep-set in your 40s.

You might want to consider preventative botox as early as your 20s if you:

  1. Have sun damage
  2. Use sunbeds or have used them in the past
  3. Sunbathe without SPF protection

1. Have Sun Damage

The first reason you might be considering preventative botox is due to sun damage.

Looking after your skin by wearing SPF every single day is essential, even on cloudy days, but many people still forget.

That said, if you’ve already experienced sun damage on your face early on in your life, then this is when it would be wise to consider preventative botox as young as during your 20s.

How does sun damage impact skin?

This comes down to the fact that sun damage can ‘lead to premature ageing’ and wrinkles, and aside from this, ‘too much ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun can damage DNA in your skin cells and cause skin cancer’, emphasising just how serious the problem is.

At You Can Clinic, we offer a variety of aesthetic training courses, including our botox course. If you’re interested in learning more about preventative botox, be sure to get in touch with a friendly member of our team today.

Sun damage can lead to 'premature ageing' of the skin, meaning that if you experience sun damage in your 20s, you might want to consider preventative botox.

2. Use Sunbeds Or Have Used Them In The Past

Another reason why you might want to consider preventative botox is if you use sunbeds or have used them in the past.

Sunbeds cause your skin ‘to age prematurely, making it look coarse, leathery, and wrinkled’ no matter how many anti-aging potions and creams you use.

A staggering ‘third of adults say they have used sunbeds at least once’ across the UK, despite the dangers that they present in terms of damaging your youthful complexion and increasing your risk to cancer.

Investing in your health by looking after your skin whilst you can is essential to prevent long-lasting damage, which is where putting a stop to the sunbed sessions and investing in preventative botox can make a real difference.

As such, opting for preventative botox can help you to keep your skin looking both supple and youthful, helping you to prevent deep-set wrinkles from appearing on your face in the future.

3. Sunbathe Without SPF Protection

Lastly, you might want to consider getting preventative botox if you sunbathe without SPF protection.

Can UV reach your skin through clouds?

You might have been lulled into a false sense of security that you don’t need to wear SPF in a country like the UK, and you wouldn’t be the only one, as we tend to experience more cloudy days than sunny days here.

However, this is false, and can lead to sun damage if you’re not careful when you consider that ‘even on overcast days, up to 80 percent of UV rays can still penetrate light cloud cover and reach your skin’.

That said, if you’ve made the mistake of sunbathing without SPF protection, even for a short period of time, you will want to consider preventative botox earlier on in life.

This will increase your chances of ensuring that your skin remains youthful for longer as you age, in spite of sunbathing without SPF protection.

However, it is worth noting that whilst preventative measures can be taken with aesthetic treatments, such as botox, to prevent premature ageing, it is your responsibility to ensure that you’re doing everything that you can to protect yourself against skin damage.

Woman after opting for preventative botox

Investing in your health by looking after your skin whilst you can is essential to prevent long-lasting damage and wrinkles.

How To Get Into Aesthetic Nursing

Many nurses are choosing to branch out and diversify their skills, with 2020 seeing an estimated '4,000 nurses perform[ing] non-invasive cosmetic treatments in the UK alone'.

There are many benefits associated with aesthetic nursing, including career flexibility as well as the potential for higher salaries.

If you’re interested in becoming an aesthetic nurse, you might be wondering how you first get started. To get into aesthetic nursing, you will need to carry out the following steps:

  1. Obtain NMC registration
  2. The matter of prescribing
  3. Research accredited training courses
  4. Start a training course
  5. Become insured
  6. Source products from a pharmacy
  7. Begin practising aesthetics

1. Obtain NMC Registration

Before you can think about getting into aesthetic nursing, you will first need to have a valid NMC registration.

In short, the Nursing and Midwifery Council simply ‘shows who can practise as a nurse or midwife in the UK’.

The British Association of Cosmetic Nurses recommends that you ‘attain at least 3 years of post graduate general adult nursing’ before becoming an aesthetic nurse, with over 80% of their nurses having over 10 years of experience in the NHS.

As such, this will give you a general idea of when you should begin a career in aesthetics.

How to get into aesthetic nursing.

2020 saw an estimated '4,000 nurses perform[ing] non-invasive cosmetic treatments in the UK alone'.

2. The Matter Of Prescribing

Following this, you will have the matter of prescribing to consider before becoming an aesthetic nurse.

As a practising nurse, you may already have a prescribing licence, meaning that you can work with prescription-only medicines such as Botulinum Toxin.

To get your prescribing licence, you will need to take an aesthetics training course or complete a V300 Advanced Certificate in Independent Prescribing.

It’s worth noting that you will also need prescribing power in order to carry out your Level 7 qualification.

If you decide to work as an aesthetic nurse without prescribing power, then you will need to work under the guidance and supervision of a practitioner that can prescribe and has the relevant qualifications. As such, this is only recommended when you’re planning to work from an established clinic.

3. Research Accredited Training Courses

Next, you will need to carry out research to find an accredited training course.

It’s worth noting that not all training courses are the same in terms of the content that you’ll learn, with some of them only covering the basics.

That said, you’ll need to carry out thorough research to understand what you’re looking for in a course and exactly what is covered in the course content.

At You Can Clinic, we offer a variety of different training courses, from Botulinum Toxin to Dermal Filler to Dermaplaning courses

Additionally, You Can Clinic alumni receive special rates on aesthetic products, meaning that you can get the most for your money when you’re first starting out.

4. Start A Training Course

Once you’ve found the right training course for you, you can begin training to become an aesthetic nurse.

Here, you’ll be able to carry out the training for your Level 6 qualification at the start of your journey to becoming an aesthetic nurse.

Whether you want to carry out your Level 7 qualification or not, it’s a good idea to look for a training provider that offers developmental opportunities to further your career.

5. Become Insured

Before you get into aesthetic nursing, you will also need to become insured.

This is an essential step to carry out to ensure that professional aestheticians are covered during the course of their work.

Many insurance companies cover aesthetic treatments, but you will want to do your research to make sure that you’re covering all bases.

After all, your safety and the safety of your clients whilst working as an aesthetic nurse should always be your top priority.

6. Source Products From A Pharmacy

Next, you will need to source aesthetic products from a registered aesthetics pharmacy

From Botulinum Toxin to Dermal Fillers, an aesthetic pharmacy will be able to dispense your aesthetic products to allow you to carry out a range of treatments.

As the aesthetic nurse, it is your responsibility to deliver aesthetic treatments with products that are safe to use, meaning that they are in date, sterile, and haven’t been opened or tampered with.

Whether you want to carry out your Level 7 qualification or not, it’s a good idea to look for a training provider that offers developmental opportunities to further your career.

7. Begin Practising Aesthetics

Once you’ve carried out the steps above, you can begin practising aesthetics and start making a name for yourself within the industry.

To ensure you’re remaining up to date with the latest trends and training techniques, it’s a good idea to seek out further development opportunities whenever possible.

This will mean that you can continue to refine your skills, provide your clients with the best possible service, and remain competitive.

How To Start Your Own Aesthetic Business

How To Start Your Own Aesthetic Business - The 5 Step Guide

Starting your own aesthetic business is increasing in popularity for many people already working in the medical industry.

As current estimates project the industry ‘to be worth more than £3 billion by the year 2024’, it’s evident why starting your own aesthetic business is a worthwhile venture for aesthetic practitioners.

If you’re interested in starting your own business as an aesthetic practitioner, there are many steps that you’ll need to take.

To start your own aesthetic business, you will need to:

  1. Gain the relevant qualifications
  2. Establish your target market
  3. Decide how much you want to charge
  4. Set up your business
  5. Prioritise building brand awareness

1. Gain The Relevant Qualifications

Before you do anything, to start your own business in the aesthetics industry you will need to gain the relevant qualifications.

The qualification you will need to complete before you can become an aesthetic practitioner is a Level 6 from an accredited training provider. From here, you can gain your Level 7 qualification.

To be able to legally administer prescription-only medication, such as Botulinum Toxin, independently, you will need a prescribing licence. Additionally, in order to gain your Level 7 qualification, you will need a prescribing licence.

To obtain your prescribing licence, you will need to take an aesthetics training course or complete a ‘V300 Advanced Certificate in Independent Prescribing’.

Without a prescribing licence, you will not be able to autonomously work with prescription-only medications, which will likely lead to complications further down the line for your business.

This comes down to the fact that without one, you’ll need to hire someone that oversees all of your aesthetics treatments

To be able to legally administer prescription-only medication, such as Botulinum Toxin, independently, you will need a prescribing licence.

2. Establish Your Target Market

Once you have gained the relevant qualifications to start your own aesthetic business, you can begin to establish your target market.

In short, a target market is ‘the specific group of people you want to reach with your marketing message…who are most likely to buy your products or services’.

When establishing your target market, you need to think of the overall goals for your business. Ask yourself, do you want to make aesthetics accessible to more people, by charging less for treatments? Or do you want to charge premium prices?

The location of where you work will also help you establish your target market. Will you want to run your business from a practice that you rent, or will you work from your own home? Perhaps you want to be a mobile aesthetic practitioner?

Once you have determined the answers to these questions, you will have a better understanding of your target market, from who they are, how you intend to market to them, and how much you’ll charge them.

3. Decide How Much You Want To Charge

Establishing your target market will inform your decision on how much you want to charge your clientele, which is the next step in starting your own aesthetic business.

Considering aesthetic treatments range from £100 to £350 for each treatment depending on the treatment and clinic in question, what you can charge at your aesthetic business can vary significantly.

How much you charge really depends on your circumstances, including how many overheads you have to cover, what aesthetic treatments you offer, as well as your goals for the business. For instance, if you’re renting a room in a clinic, then you’ll need to factor in rent and utilities. If you decide to be mobile, then you’ll need to consider travel costs.

That said, you will want to ensure that you do your market research, and determine what the general consensus is in your area to help you decide a pricing strategy.

Starting your own aesthetics business.

Considering aesthetic treatments range from £100 to £350 depending on the treatment and clinic, what you can charge for treatments can vary significantly.

4. Set Up Your Business

Next, you will need to set up your business. In the UK, this will likely mean that you need to register as self-employed.

You will also need to acquire the necessary insurance for your aesthetic business, finding an insurance provider that covers the aesthetics industry.

Alternatively, you can register your aesthetic business as a limited company, but it’s essential that you seek advice and do your research to determine which option works best for your personal circumstances.

It is essential for you to have the appropriate documentation for safe treatments for each of your clients, which should include a comprehensive consenting protocol. This is important as ‘carrying out a treatment or performing a procedure without a patient’s proper consent can actually constitute assault’. You will also need treatment forms, consultation documents, as well as advice on aftercare.

Whether you work from a clinic or are mobile will also determine the equipment that you will need to invest in to be able to run your business.

5. Prioritise Building Brand Awareness

Once you have set up your business, you will need to prioritise building brand awareness.

As a marketing strategy, brand awareness is ‘the measure of how memorable and recognizable a brand is to its target audience’.

Brand awareness can be achieved through marketing tactics such as engaging in online groups and utilising social media campaigns.

The more people that you reach with your aesthetics brand, the more awareness you spread about your business and what you stand for.

As word spreads and you begin gaining reviews, you will slowly but surely become a bigger authority that people trust.
