How to Start and Grow Your Aesthetics Business

Entering the aesthetics industry can open the door to a rewarding new career and a valuable additional income stream. With the right training, practitioners can begin with a focused selection of treatments, establish a loyal client base and gradually develop a thriving aesthetics practice. As a relatively newly qualified nurse, this blog explains how I started on my aesthetic journey, the courses I think are best to get you started, develop confidence and ultimately provide some extra income.

First a little bit about the You Can Clinic. Established in 2010, the training academy has supported more than 2,000 medical professionals through programmes ranging from introductory courses to advanced practitioner training. Many former beginners, like me, have gone on to build successful practices and established client bases of their own.

For those starting out, I recommend Skin Peels, Skin Boosters, Polynucleotides and Microneedling as excellent treatment areas to explore. These popular skin-focused treatments do not require the practitioner to hold a prescribing qualification, reducing one of the common barriers associated with entering medical aesthetics.

These treatments also provide a good financial opportunity. They can be introduced without the level of investment required for a large, fully equipped clinic, while their broad appeal makes them valuable services for attracting new clients. Treatment programmes and ongoing skin-maintenance plans can also encourage repeat appointments, referrals and longer-term client relationships. Take a look at the table below which shows what the return on Skin Peels and Boosters might be:

Cost of Product How many patients can one treat and at what price How long  per treatment Profit per treatment (vial/syringe)
Skin Peel ~£40 (1 vial) 6 people @£50 per treatment 2-5 mins £260
Skin Booster ~£40 (1 syringe) 1 person @£100 15 mins £60

You can start your business on a manageable scale—perhaps alongside an existing healthcare role— and often treating friends and family. Its surprising how quickly things expand particularly as confidence and experience increase. The courses that the You Can Clinic offers can help build that confidence and they also offer one to one training where its required.

You Can Clinic offers more than a training day. The experienced tutors, practical teaching, product support and ongoing guidance help practitioners move from learning a treatment to successfully introducing it into practice. With a strong foundation and the right professional support, a new aesthetics venture can grow into an enjoyable and rewarding business.
